A New Blessing

How long will the churches continue to stand alone in facing what is happening in the world? I am not underestimating the ability of any church to be faithful and wise. What I mean is that there are some matters deserving that we set aside the borders between us, East and West, in order to discuss them together. A few days ago, the Church of Rome issued a new document in which it allowed same-sex couples to be given a blessing. This issuance took me back to a declaration, also approved by Rome in March 2021, in which it drew leaders from Orthodox churches in the world to its saying in it that “God does not bless sin”. I am not commenting now on the new document. What I am interested in is to follow the opening of these lines. We all know that we are facing the same world in its twists and turns as well as its defeats… Joint thinking about matters we are facing together is a duty assumed by brotherly love and our one belief that we are waiting for God to put an end to a division that we consider accidental. There remains that the new document revealed some fear of “ambiguity and confusion”. Is it going to cause them?
