A Jewish Pearl

A close friend of mine introduced me to the filmmaker Yuula Benivolski, who completed her separation from her homeland, Israel, from which she emigrated, 23 years ago, to the city of Toronto, in Canada. Well done to her! What did this lovely artist do? I will tell you. She came to us from afar with confident solemnity. First, she showed us identification papers revealing that she is Israeli. Then she stated what she had to say: “Last week, I submitted a request to renounce my Israeli citizenship to the consulate here in Toronto”! She said that she had not acted on the spur of the moment when she took this decision about which she had been thinking ever since she had verified that Israel was falsifying its history in schools when teaching its students. As to the reason that led her to renounce it today, it is Israel’s horrific attacks on Gaza, which have reached their peak these days, and its officials’ threat that, following “the humanitarian temporary truce”, they will resume their attacks. The splendor of the precious pearls must be displayed!
