A Call In Prayer

During the congregational prayer, I found myself standing behind him. I was there before he arrived. Everyone in the church had taken their places. The priest who celebrates the service was inside the altar; the chanters were in their place; the faithful were distributed, each on a seat. The new words were arising from here and there. In our Church heritage, Man is uplifted by the prayer he recites. He lifts it up to God, and God returns it to him. However, in that prayer, which was mostly recited in another language, I felt something different; I felt as if the words were all descending on this man in front of me! He was exuding prayer! My feeling scared me. I did not tell Jesus, as Peter said when He had called him: “depart from me” (Luke 5:8), but rather I asked Him to have mercy on me. When I left the church, I had a sense of reassurance that drove fear away from me. Here, God is still taking pity on me by calling me to follow Him!
