Many of us, reading the story, would stop at Jesus' response: “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first”. The response is one of the pinnacles of the story, no doubt. However, it does not bring it to an end. The story ends with two things, with the attitude of the inquirers, and with Jesus calling the woman to commit to a life of righteousness. These are also two of the pinnacles of the story which seems to us to remain open forever. We know nothing of the woman’s fate other than that Jesus, with His crucified love, has saved her from getting stoned. Has she repented to Him? However, we do know that the Scribes and Pharisees, from their oldest to their youngest, went out, humiliated, from before Him. This is an admission of guilt, but an incomplete one. Who will complete it? This story is a call for us to choose Jesus, this great love, in a life worthy of Him. Righteousness is from Him.

Today, I will go with you to the story of the adulterous woman whom the Scribes and Pharisees presented to Jesus, and asked Him what He would say about her (John 8:3-11).
