A close friend, whose eyes look for news of joy, sent me a piece of news of the American University of Beirut granting \u201cthe prolific writer\u201d Elias Khoury an honorary doctorate. This is eloquent news that should not be read in a hurry. An American university is proud to recognize the ascent, on the paths of knowledge, of Khoury, the writer who has an ardent Arab nationality, who is loyal to causes that have become, for many of their people, mere papers in drawers. This is a tribute to free thinking, and rather, to the faithful humanity that relents before nothing other than the Truth. Those who know Elias Khoury, on his pages or on platforms he ascends, need not be told that the loftiest thing that can be said about the man is that he is both a genuine friend and an honest opponent! An open Lebanese, this is him; a supporter of the broken \u201cfrom his household\u201d, here and there; in Lebanon; in Palestine; in Iraq and Syria\u2026 \u201cI am a Syrian refugee\u201d\u2026 This is a saving unity if we understand that there is a bleeding God Who is dispensing ink to His friends.
