Yesterday, I was reading a book that I had hosted next to me two days ago. I was struck by the Apostle\u2019s word: \u201cHis commandments are not burdensome\u201d (1 John 5:3). Suddenly, I was beset by a feeling, a mixture of sorrow and joy! I put away the guest book, and held the New Testament. I wanted to read John's word in its context. \u201cThis is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome\u201d. This is the secret of obedience. Without love, no one can keep company with the Word or discover its friendliness. Only Love, Jesus\u2019 Love, enables us to understand that what He says is possible because of the communion of life with Him, because of His embracing us, adherence to us, because of His loving grace.
