Who am I? I am a worm and not a man; a poor man who has not lost his memory. I told him to drop this formula. I said: \u201cJesus\u2019 commandment to His disciples before He went to be crucified was: \u201cYou are all brethren\u201d (Matthew 23:8)\u201d. He paused, awaiting what I was going to tell him next. \u201cThat is all\u201d. He resumed talking as if he remembered something that he had missed saying. I replied, \"Do not talk to me of my position in the service of the Church, but of the position that Jesus willed for us, both you and I. This is our origin, and pray with me that this may be our end. It was not the virtue of humility, so wearisome to me, which prompted me to talk to him or to write these lines, but rather the faithfulness to the Word Which rejects our turning the Church worldly! The formal form does not convince me. I am not convinced that someone uses it with me or that anyone else expects me to use it with him. \u201cWe are all brethren, my brother.
