A few sustaining words have stayed with me from that meeting. We were a group of young people meeting weekly in the hall of our Church. At the end of the meeting, our leader asked us: \u201cI want you to answer me as to what, in your opinion, could the vice of pride do to Man\u201d. He did not wait for us, but, immediately, gave us full rein to speak. Three responded. The first one said: \u201cit turns off our love for God and for people\u201d. The second one followed him: \u201cit disrupts our capacity for mercy and forgiveness\u201d. Then the third one said: \u201cit makes us disdain what the brethren say for our salvation\u201d. The brother leader looked at us with joy. Then, including himself with us with honest humility, he said: \u201cimagine the desolation imparted to us by this vice\u201d.
